Unforgettable road trips in Europe to do this Summer

Who has never dreamed of going on a road trip? Summer is the ideal time to travel by car with your loved ones. And expectations are high when it comes to traveling the roads of Europe.

Traveling the kilometers of road that connect the cities of the different European countries gives you unique experiences. You can have breakfast in one country, lunch in another, and dinner in a different third.

For the more adventurous or for those who prefer to enjoy a European beautiful landscape, there are plenty of options for a different vacation. Mark your preferred destination and choose the best way to get there.

## Europe’s best road trips

FROM DUBROVNIK TO PULA, CROATIA

The starting point is the city that gained even more fame due to the War of Thrones series. A day or two exploring the medieval part is a must, but then hit the road and stop at some of the most beautiful Croatian beaches and towns, such as Markarska, Bol, Split, Sibenik, Zadar, or Opatija. When you reach your final destination, Pula, be sure to visit the city’s Roman amphitheater.

MONTENEGRO

One of the countries that is not yet on all tourist radars, Montenegro holds unique landscapes and meets the ideal conditions to be explored on a road trip. Your reference points should be: Budva, Kotor, Durmitor and Piva.

ROMANTIC ROUTE, GERMANY

It is about 300 kilometers between Füssen and Wurtzburg, through beautiful roads and medieval villages that seem to be part of a fairytale scenario, such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Augsburg, Landsberg and Nördlingen.

TUSCANY, ITALY

It is one of the most desired regions for travelers heading to Italy, and you can understand why. It will also be one of the best road trips you can take in the country. The starting point can be Florence, where you should spend two or three days finding pearls of the Renaissance. Continue to Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena and Bagnoregio. You can relax on the island of Elba.

ATLANTIC HIGHWAY, NORWAY

Before or after exploring Bergen and Oslo, why not travel the five miles of the mythical Atlantic Road? It may be small in size but it is big in beauty. Since you are in the land of the fjords, you can also take the opportunity to take a few extra days and explore these Norwegian “giants”.

PORTUGAL’S COAST

European Best Destination says that the Portuguese coast is “better than California.” The site suggests starting the trip in Porto and heading south, with stops in Aveiro, Leiria, Peniche, Sintra, Lisbon, Cascais, Estoril, Setúbal and the Algarve. We think there are still many beautiful places to explore on this “road trip”…

How to plan your next Europe road trip?

Europe is a great place to visit, but planning a European road trip can be overwhelming. There are so many places to go, and so many things to see! But no wonder so many digital nomads and remote workers are choosing more and more Europe for this type of trip.

To help you plan your next European road trip, here are some tips to keep in mind when planning your itinerary.

  1. Start early. The earlier you begin planning, the better. This gives you plenty of time to book hotels, flights, and car rentals.
  2. Choose a destination. Pick a city or region that interests you. Then narrow down your choices based on your budget, length of stay, and activities you’d like to experience.
  3. Book hotel rooms well ahead of time. Hotels fill up quickly during peak travel times, especially in popular destinations like Paris and Rome. So book your accommodations as soon as possible.
  4. Consider public transportation. Public transportation is often cheaper than taking taxis, and it’s usually faster too. Plus, it allows you to explore off the beaten path.
  5. Stay flexible. Don’t lock yourself into a specific schedule. Instead, allow yourself the flexibility to adjust your plans as needed.
  6. Pack light. Traveling light makes packing and unpacking easier. And it saves money.
  7. Bring cash. Many countries don’t accept credit cards, so bring enough cash to pay for everything.
  8. Use apps. Apps like TripAdvisor and Google Maps can save you tons of time and money. They’re free, and they provide valuable information about attractions, restaurants, and hotels.
  9. Keep track of expenses. You can use apps like Expensely to keep track of your expenses.
  10. Be patient. Road trips take time. Make sure you give yourself ample time to get from point A to point B.
